kremmling
Location: 104 miles northwest of Denver on U.S. 40/Colorado 9 Elevation: 7364, Population: 1578
Situated east of Steamboat Springs along Highway 40, the small town of Kremmling offers access to virtually every outdoor pursuit in Colorado. It is close to three national forests: Routt, Arapaho and White River. The Blue River, the Colorado River and Muddy Creek all pass through town, too, offering ample whitewater adventures for kayakers and rafters as well as some excellent fishing spots. You don't have to go to Alaska for dogsled racing. Mush up to Kremmling in February for the annual Colorado Blue Ididarace. Kremmling is close to Steamboat Springs' downhill slopes, and there's more than 300 miles of cross-country ski trails in the county. Summer activities include horseback riding, hiking and driving along scenic roads.
Lodging is affordable here and the residents are friendly, down-to-earth people. Mrs. Z's Burger Barn is a favorite pull-off spot for road-trippers and the Rocky Mountain Bar & Grill offers a quick, sit-down meal. Get the scoop at the Chamber of Commerce, located at the west end of town.
If you want to extend your stay, the folks at Latigo Ranch specialize in memories. With a mountain setting, trails, horses and real fall cattle roundups, the memories you make here will last a lifetime.
